    Lessons From Rocks

We were all hanging out at the park for youth group one week and we all went separate ways to pray. And I of course was walking around and felt the natural human urge to throw a rock in the river. So I did. And then another. Then I started to skip rocks. It was fun. And then I started thinking... imagine that.

At first I was just throwing rocks. I was watching how the ripples kept going out and out across the river. The river had a fairly strong current to it, but the ripples kept going. No matter how small a rock I threw, it still made a difference in the water. It's the same with us. No matter how small our actions may be, they still make a difference in the world. So it's basically the chaos theory here.

Then I was skipping rocks. I remember Mr. Oman telling my sister that any rock will skip if it is flat. The shape doesn't matter. The size doesn't matter to a degree. I thought about that as I was trying to skip rocks across the river... but my arm was kinda sore so I was doing very poorly. And the fact that I'm not a really good rock skipper...

Any rock will skip as long as the bottom is flat. Any person can work for God if they flatten out. If they can be willing to listen. Dare to step out of the box and completely trust Him. It doesn't matter what shape you are, what color you are, where you live, how much money you have. If you are willing to listen to Him, He will use you in ways you could never imagine. Seriously! All you have to do is let him flatten you out!

Let the rocks teach a lesson. Anyone can be used by God, but are you ready?

    The Screen

At work, there is one position that is seemingly easy until you do it: Fries. You get fries for people and you cook more when you need them. Listen to what is called for and you get it. Easy, right? It is unless there are five million people in line... ew.

But there is hope! There is the screen! It comes up with who needs what food and in what order. It even says if it is for dining room or carry-out. Its really useful. I normally put most of my focus on it. And when I lose focus and stop using it, I get lost. I start to fumble. I start to basically suck at my job. Then I get back on track after a while with some help.

It's not too hard to see where this is going... just replace Christ with the screen and life with fries. We need to focus on God to get things done. Without Him, life is pretty much sucky. With Him, it is hard. Not a doubt about that. But it's worthwhile. He will prevail. He will take care of us. He will lead us... if we follow the screen. It's possible to get back in focus when we falter, but it takes some time and lots of effort. Neat!

Want to get your life on track? Follow the screen. Follow God!

    Catch It!

We're going back to football on this one. This time you're the wide receiver. You are down by three with one final drive. The kickoff is decent and you set up shop around the thirty. First play is a shot at something deep to see if you can catch a break. Since you are the fastest on the team, you are naturally the primary target to burn the corner. Hut!... Hut!... HUT! Ball's snapped and you're off like a bullet. Poor corner decided to play tight and you have him burned in about ten yards. You look back and the quarterback (not Tom Brady) gives you the look and lets loose. You see the ball glide with awesome spiral... this game is over! It's over baby! Endzone in sight... you will score and win... easy. You feel the ball on your hands... then it's gone. Whistle blows the play dead. You dropped it. And you get called to the bench and get the talk every wide-out gets: You have to have the ball before you run!

In football, one must have the ball to score. It's common sense. So why wouldn't you catch it? Because you are looking too far ahead. You just take catching the ball for granted. Many, many times a wide-out will drop the ball because he looks too far ahead, whether it is the endzone, or Troy Polamalu getting ready to hit you from the next state over (#1 fear of any offensive player. I took a poll), or celebrating with the fans, or whatever. Too many times I've seen a catchable pass dropped. Just catch the ball!

Likewise, we must realize God's love for us. He loves you... actually... HE LOVES YOU... actually... HE LOVES YOU!!! There is no other way to put it! If you want to serve in the kingdom of God, you need to know this! Too often we take this for granted!!! He loves me! He loves you! He loves everyone! He can call you by name! Why is that cool? He can call every star, every plant, every teeny-tiny organism... BY NAME! And to think he cares about us enough to know our names too? Come on!!! That's unbelievable!!! I can't even remember biology terms, let alone every name of everything!

If you want to serve God to the fullest, you need to know how God loves you. How are you going to tell others of His wondrous love if you don't get it? It's like me trying to teach martial arts. I don't get it.I can't teach it. I'd do a horrible job. But if I took the time and immersed myself in the arts, I would be better at it and may be able to teach it. Same thing. I need to immerse myself in God's love to show it to others. I cannot show what I don't have. I will never wrap my human brain around the full meaning of His Perfect Love, but I can show what He has done for me.

This week, try to spend some time with God. Think about His love. How much He loves you. You. YOU. The God who created the universe loves YOU. He made everything. And He loves YOU.

    Ticked Off

Oh what fun Northbay was... I decided to spend some time alone on Saturday morning in the woods. After sitting around for a while, I started to pray that God would show me something really cool. Then some ducks swam by and I was watching them. Then I started thinking about how they were ducking (seriously?) underwater to get something. They weren't just going down a little. They went all out.

I thought we need to do that as well. We should go all out for what we want. We just can't wait for it to show up on the surface of the lake of life. But this was not the thing I really thought about after my time in the woods. This next event would really be on my mind the rest of the weekend.

I got back to the cabin and was really hungry. Breakfast was in twenty minutes, but I really needed something little, so I grabbed my COOKIE DOUGH POP-TARTS!!! (So good!) I looked at my arm since something was starting to bother it, and I see this little black spot. I figured it was just chocolate on my arm and almost didn't think anything of it. But I didn't want to forget about it, so I wiped it off... and it was still there. I kept wiping at it and it wasn't going away. Then I noticed the spot had legs... twas (sweet word) a tick. I was able to get it off and went on my day and got another tick later that later came off. Fun weekend.

So why bother with this story about ticks? It all goes back to that prayer. I wanted God to show me something that I think EVERYONE deals with... it just took me until today to realize He did. Everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. If we have sinned, we obviously have sin in our life... Sin that we need to get rid of. If we look at our sin and think it's something else, it will become a big problem. Ticks carry disease, and if they get in ya too long you can get very sick. In the same light, sins carry a certain weight to them. It eats away at you. Sin will tear you apart and wreck your life. But if you get rid of it while it's still on top of your skin and barely latched on, you can just pick it off with a little work. You can battle sin easier if you fight it early and acknowledge that it's there.

That's on of Satan's techniques to destroy us. That's one thing he wants. He wants to destroy us because he knows God loves us. And he wants to kill us without us thinking he is there. He will make you think the tick is just chocolate so you ignore it... and then you realize it's a tick later when it's gonna be really hard to get rid of its doing. How can you stop these ticks? Look for the legs when you notice it. If you are questioning something to make sure it's ok, run it down the list. Is it true? Honest? Just? Pure? Lovely? Of good report? Virtue? Praise? (Philippians 4:8) If it's all yes, think about such things. If there is a no, move on. Easier said than done, but saying it is the first step to living it.

If you have a problem and you can still see the tick, try to get rid of it. If it's burrowed in deep, get some help to get it out. If you are absolutely getting torn apart by it, look to the mightiest healer of them all: God. Satan will lead you to believe you are alone. But God is always there by your side. And God is bigger than the air we breathe.

I can't make it clearer, put it any other way/ If you can't see the simple truth I do/ But to know that your forever can be changed/ 'Cause Jesus loves you! -Stellar Kart

    Wrecked!

I was leaving my house today when I noticed something different... two cars pulled over on the side of the road by my house. It looked like they hit each other, but I'm not going to assume anything. Maybe one just hit something and the other came by to help, but my best guess is a wreck... Who knows? But the important thing here is that the traffic on the upper road was backed up. Why? They were all looking at the cars. It was something different. The cars weren't impeding traffic on the road; everyone just wanted to stop to look.

As Christians, we are called to make a difference. I really am not a fan of preaching fire and brimstone from the corner, or jumping in people's faces. So how do you get people to see Christ in you? You follow Him. He will lead you on a different path than that of the world. It is different. And like the cars, we don't have to interfere with everyone's life. Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. But in this case, we are off doing our thing and people notice and will stop what they are doing to watch.

How do we know this works? We don't. Others will see it though. This is not something we can really try to do. It just happens. What are some examples? I can't really give those. Just live for Christ. It will light you on fire (From the Inside Out!!!) and that fire will be seen by the world. You can't be lit up without others seeing it ( God wouldn't light a fire and hide it under a bowl) inside of you. Its a really cool thing. It really shows God working through someone. It's awesome to witness! And it's not something we do, it's something God does within us!

I pray that anyone who is thinking that living for God isn't worth it anymore... don't give up. Being a Christian isn't easy. No one said it would be. If you think what you are doing for God isn't worth it, think again. Some of the most "trivial" things we do can have lasting effects. Whether it's leading people, or praying for that certain person, or going out of your way to make sure someone is ok, or even listening to a rant or offering to help; it's all worth it. Throwing a pebble in a lake isn't really impressive at first, but those ripples go out and out and change the whole lake. The rings get bigger. It's all part of God's plan. That little pebble you throw may end up being something really big later on. Something many people want to do is just to make a difference. Be that difference.
